I’m Sonji Martin, a 20-year Army veteran and the founder of Sonji Gem Designs.
Military life meant constant movement—new countries, new cultures, and the responsibility of leading and caring for others. Those years shaped my understanding of strength. Not as something loud or performative, but as something steady. Carried. Lived forward, day after day.
After retiring from the Army, my life shifted in ways I never anticipated. I faced serious, unexplained health challenges—ones that took nearly two decades to fully understand. That experience changed my relationship with strength entirely. It became less about endurance on display and more about the quiet resilience required simply to continue.
Sonji Gem Designs grew from that truth. Jewelry-making became a way to mark what had already been lived—responsibility carried, identities shaped, cultures encountered, and resilience that doesn’t ask for recognition or explanation.
